Gaetano Tanti joined the UHM in February 1976. In November 1987 he was appointed part-time Secretary of the General Service Section. In January 1991 he was appointed full-time Secretary of the same Section and a few months later the General Council of the Union appointed him also Assistant Secretary-General. He took the office of President of the UHM in May 1998.

Name: Joseph S. Vella

Joseph S. Vella joined the UHM in May 1970. He was immediately appointed Office Representative for UHM members employed at the Police Headquarters, and later at the Customs Department. He has been a member on the Executive Committee of the General Service Section from 1980 to date, during which time he represented the Section on the General Council of the Union for a number of years. He held the post of Secretary of the General Service Section between April 1996 and April 1997, and he was elected Vice-President of the Union in May 1998.

Name: Gejtu Vella

Gejtu Vella joined the UHM in March 1982. He was elected on the Executive Committee of the Private Sector and when the Hotels, Restaurants, Food and Beverages Section was set up in October 1989, he was appointed its first Secretary. In June 1995 he was also appointed Assistant Secretary-General. He took over the office of UHM Secretary General in May 1998.

Name: Jesmond Bonello

Appointed to present position: 20 March 2006
Jesmond Bonello joined the UHM in March 1990 and was appointed Assistant Secretary General in March 2006. In March 1998 he was appointed full-time Assistant Secretary within the Parastatal Section. Jesmond Bonello is also the Secretary of the Public Entitities Section of the Union. He has occupied this post since February 2003.
